God will not be used or manipulated

Many of us have been taught to approach God based on formulas: “If you do this, God will do this.” It's a trap we've all fallen into and I have been guilty of it myself. We bargain, plead, promise, and give God all kinds of reasons why he should do things our way.

Many of us have come from a background where we were taught to name it and claim it. Sometimes things go wrong and we want to "control" them.

We have all been desperate for things NOT God. When we have those "desperate needs" we immediately start thinking of things we can do to get God to give us what we want, as if He doesn't love us.

Even obedience is turned into manipulation. To some of us, God is like a parent that we can bargain with. “Come on, I’ll wash the car if you let me borrow it on Friday!”

We believe if we do what He asks then He owes us something either a happy marriage, healthy family, or a prospering business, etc.

And when we fail...we don't GIVE UP! I'm always amazed at how much tenacity I have for the WRONG things.

Mercy Lord!!

We continue to look for some hidden way that will let us boss God around, as if He's some sort of remote-controlled toy that we can steer if only we push the right buttons. But that's completely backwards of the way things really are.

Even prayer becomes mechanical as we quote the Word back to God with a "demanding tone". We forget that praying is not so much telling as it is asking. Rather than surrending to God's will for our lives, we think He should be submit to our will.

God will not be used or manipulated.

[adsenseyu1]Oh can we also talk about fasting? Yes, even fasting has become our go to when we need something, not because we want God's presence.

And what about giving? Yep we do it because we believe in our little minds that God will not be able to resist our demands.

And what about the gifts that God has given us?

Some of us are great "negotiators". Some of us are "great speakers" (with smooth tongues). Some of us know how to "sell" an idea. Some of us know how to "network".

And not that any of these gifts are bad. The problem is when we use the gifts to push God to give us what we want.  Sometimes it's easier to "perform" for the world than to wait on God and to trust Him.

We are a generation of people who want patience and we want it NOW!

And God allows us to have our way for a while ...but soon those tricks won't work anymore.

God cannot be used or manipulated.  His Ways and Thoughts are Higher and they are definitely NOT our ways.

And what about sulking when something isn’t happening in your life, thinking God will feel sorry for you? Well, God doesn’t feel sorry for you. The only thing He accepts is a humble heart that trusts Him. Everything else is "useless work".

Didn't Paul say that God has given us ALL things that pertain to life and godliness? So all that we need we have been given.

Now why do we manipulate? Why do we make it like God doesn't love us? Why?

God cannot be reduced to a formula, nor is He a high-powered vending machine ready to give us what we "demand".

As Steven Furtick says, we cannot make God move in our lives, but we can make room for him to move.

Jesus said, the movement of God’s Spirit is mysterious, like the wind. We cannot tell where it comes from or when it is coming. As soon as someone says they have it figured out, you can be sure they’ve missed it!

Just because something great happens doesn't mean it is from God.  Check your fruit. And if you are honest, you will know what you what you did was not the way God wanted it.  The world will celebrate your "victory" but God knows the truth.
Galatians 5:22-23, (NIV):  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Yes God wants us to fast, give, pray, read our Bibles but not so we can get anything but His presence in return. God is interested in our maturity and wants us to grow up healthy and happy.

God will not be used or manipulated.  Stop trying to manipulate Him and start trusting God to act the best Way He ONLY can.

Can we be honest with God and stop playing games with Him?
Matthew 7:21-23, "Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, and cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name? And then will I declare to them, I never knew you, depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness".

Father forgive me.  Help me.  This is not the kind of relationship I want to have with you. Draw me closer.

I allow your Spirit to be my Helper and Guider. I can't do this life without Your Spirit Lord.

Thank you that you are NOT withholding any good thing from me. In Jesus name I receive the fullness of Your Spirit.
