The benefits of helping other people

Did you know that when you help other people, you are not only doing well for them but you are also helping yourself? When you give your time, your energy, your skills and your money to someone or a cause, whether small or big – you are basically helping yourself.

Many studies show that helping others boosts your levels of happiness and this generosity-induced mood boost is contagious. Studies have also shown that volunteers have fewer symptoms of depression and anxiety and they feel more hopeful.  Charity can be performed by anyone and everyone.

Remember that the only “possessions” you are taking to heaven is people. So why don’t you start helping others and reap the rewards.

Here are the benefits of helping other people

  • Helping others is a like a good investment, it keeps multiplying. You will definitely get some reward for that, in one way or the other.

  • Reaching down and helping to lift other people is an exercise for the heart.

  • When you choose to help others it gives your footsteps greater purpose.

  • Helping others helps you to live longer.

  • As you help others you also make new friends and contacts. Your sense of community is heightened.

  • If you want to get your mind off your own troubles, focus on other people. Your weight will be.

  • Help others meet their goals and you'll see yours being met.

So when you consider whether to help others or not remember that in the long and short run, you are actually helping yourself.

There is always happiness in giving than receiving. That is why the Bible says, “Give and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you”. (Luke 6:38)
