The Daniel Plan: 40 Days to a Healthier Life

Christian Art Distributor’s is excited to announce the The Daniel Plan: 40 Days to a Healthier Life, a book written by Pastor Rick Warren, author of the best-selling The Purpose Driven Life, published through Zondervan.

Warren recruited three expert doctors to develop the science behind the plan:Daniel Amen, a psychiatrist; Mark Hyman, a family doctor; who both co-wrote the book and Mehmet Oz, a well-known TV host (Dr Oz Show) and cardiac surgeon. This book illustrates an innovative approach to achieving a healthy lifestyle that is rooted in one's relationship with God and will hit the retail shelves on  the 3rd December 2013.

This is a revolutionary look at the five key concepts for optimal health, making this plan for achieving a healthier lifestyle both transformational and sustainable. The plan and book title was inspired by the biblical story of Daniel, where he and his friends, all Israelites from Babylon, asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat the royal food. Their diet consisted of vegetables and water and because of this, "they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food," - Daniel 1:15 (NIV).

Warren’s mission was to curb the obesity epidemic at church. It was a particular Sunday when he was baptizing 867 people, which took over 4.5 hours, and as he reached the 500th person he had a very unspiritual thought, “Man, we’re all fat!”. Warren himself admitted to gaining 40 kilograms over the last 30 years and falling for and failing at yo-yo diets. The book was published due to the great success the implementation of the Daniel plan had on Warren personally, as well as his very own congregation at Saddleback Church in Southern California, which is over 30 000 members strong. 12 000 members joined Warren and took part in an exciting, life altering race with cooking demonstrations, Tae-Bo lessons with Billy Blanks as well as healthier choices on the church menus and in the vending machines. The collective weight loss tallied to over 113 000 Kilograms. Warren told Time Magazine that we are responsible (response-able, we are able to respond) as our health does affect those around us, “It affects my kids, my wife, my grandkids and my employer. We need to get rid of the victim mentality and get back to the responsibility mentality”.

The Daniel Plan teaches simple ways to incorporate healthy choices into a reader's current lifestyle and helps them understand the kind of foods God created to keep them fit and strong. The book is categorized around five key concepts for optimal health that promote success: faith, food, fitness, focus, and friends. These concepts encourage readers to deepen their relationship with God and offer inspiration as they make positive choices each and every day. "God cares about everything in your life. He cares about the body, soul and spirit. Jesus went into every village — preaching, teaching and healing. Preaching involves our soul. Teaching involves our mind, and healing involves our body. If our body is the temple of God's spirit, then we had better give him a healthy temple." Warren told USA Today.

Ultimately, The Daniel Plan is about abundance, not deprivation, and this is why the plan is both transformational and sustainable. Readers are encouraged to do The Daniel Plan with another person or a group to accelerate their results and enjoy a built-in support system. Studies show that people who attempt to lose weight or implement healthier habits in groups are more likely to be successful than individuals working alone.  We all need coaches and cheerleaders. I have a friend that we text back and forth, “Are you drinking enough water?” Or the word “water.” Sounds silly but it works. It reminds you that somebody has your back.” says Melanie Black, the face of The Daniel Plan, who lost approximately 13 kilograms during the first 6 months.  Her husband Jim lost over 22 kilograms within the first six months and more than that, Jim had been off all medication for his diabetes, sleep apnea and GERD since then.

The Daniel Plan

Dr Hyman, who was addicted to sugar, caffeine, and adrenalin, a recovering Dopamine addict, added “our lives are about the thousand little choices we make every day. We have all been given a beautiful creation—our physical body. But none of us were born with an operating manual or instruction book. How do we make it feel good, take care of it, make it run like it was designed—balanced and in perfect rhythm? Most of us don’t learn how to manage our energy and bodies well. We use drugs—sugar, caffeine, alcohol, adrenalin or worse to manage our energy and moods. Most of us don’t connect our behaviours and choices with how we feel every day. We don’t connect what we eat, how much we rest and sleep, how much we exercise, how much time we make for connecting with friends and community, or the kinds of media and news we watch with how we feel every day. This is what I have spent the last 20 years studying—how can I thrive and help my patients thrive; what prevents us from being well and what helps us.”

So what makes The Daniel Plan different? Firstly its prayer and secondly one can do Bible studies on what the bible says about physical health.Readers are offered cutting-edge, real-world applications that are easy to implement and create tangible results, the book offer’s God’s prescription for your health.
