Wednesday, March 07, 2012

Let’s not look over our shoulders to see what others are doing or not doing. Look at how God may be able to use you in His kingdom today. He has gifted you just as He has pleased.

Name:  Bridget K Gornall

Occupation: Estate Agent

Church Name: Rhema Bible Church Randburg

Position at Church: Member of Rhema Choir

Tell us a little about yourself: I am a wife; mother and I have been blessed with three amazing kids: Nicola aged 7, Enoch 4 and Joshua 3.  I have been a bookkeeper for 8 years and I have recently left the co-corporate world to join the real estate business.  I currently work for Chass Everett International Property Group.

I was born again at the age of 13 and after I matriculated I found myself overwhelmed with a desire to serve God. In 1999 I enrolled with Rhema Bible Training Centre and graduated in 2001. I met my husband during my training at the center and we got married in 2003. Both of us have served in our local Church as home cell leaders and I have been the member of our Churches’ choir.

How long have you been with the Church?

14yrs

How did you know for sure that you are called to serve within your local Church?

Firstly, the Word of God instructs us to do our part as the members of the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12).  Paul explains that commandment so beautiful by saying that we are parts in the body and every part in the body has its function so if one of the parts is not contributing their talent, the entire body suffers. Well from that understanding I knew I had to make a decision like Joshua and declare that, “as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).

What is the most spiritually renewing aspect of serving and what keeps you going?

For me it’s when I see the unsaved experience the saving Grace of Jesus, the joy of knowing that a soul has been saved from eternal damnation. And also there’s no better way to remain connected to the body than to serve it and to serve the unsaved. I know that when I serve in my local Church I am serving God’s purpose.

How important is prayer and studying the Word for a woman serving within the Church?

It is very important. There’s no other place where you can we learn true servant hood nut through the Word of God. Jesus is our true example because He did not come to be served but came to serve the world.   When we spent time in the Word and pray we will serve effectively even when we pass through difficult times and be able to serve the saved and the unsaved without losing hope. The Word of God will keep your motives in check and help you to get understanding of God’s big picture. Praying will help you remain connected to the Source of the joy that is found in serving.

Why do you think it is important for Christian women to serve within their local Church?

Serving in the Church is not just a privilege for the few but it is the call of every Christians according to Eph4:4-7. The majority of people serving in the Church are woman. As it is understood woman can easily multi task and I believe we as women have a very special place in the Church that’s why when we unite to serve we become most effective and get a lot done. The opposite is also true but my encouragement is if you have been hurt or have  hurt others while serving  or in the name of serving pick yourself up and let God mother His Church through you.

What would you say to women who are wondering about how they fit into the Body of Christ?

If you are a born again child of God you are God’s own special people, a royal priesthood and you are part of a Holy nation. You’re a child of God and you’re an important part of His Body.

So what would you say to those women who are still searching for His will and what to do next in their life?

You will find God’s will for your life you in the pages of the Bible. There is a desire that God has placed in you. Start where you are and the Lord will unfold the full plan for your life as you go along.

Which Christian women do you take most of your personal inspiration from—either inside or outside your own church?

Wow, there are many women of God but there is one woman that’s blessed my life and her name is Gloria Copeland. She has so much confidence in the Word of God.

In one sentence, what do you believe God really wants from his daughters?

God wants the whole of our hearts, our brokenness, our lives and every aspect of it as a wife, mother, single mother, sister, daughter and friend, colleague etc.
